A Word From Our CAASFEP President, Bonnie McFarland...

Welcome to the new CAASFEP Web site. Whether this is your first visit or you are an old friend, we hope you will return and stay connected with your California Association of Administrators of State and Federal Education Programs (CAASFEP) colleagues.

Our commitment is to ensuring the best programs possible for students living in poverty, English Learners and other special need students served by categorical programs. CAASFEP has been here for over 30 years supporting those of you who work with state and federal programs, and our goal is to continue to be there for you during these challenging times.

At our fall Professional Development Institute in Monterey we were impressed with how many new categorical directors were in attendance. Many of our new directors are completely new to categorical programs and others may have had some experience with special programs, but have these responsibilities added to an already full work load. We are especially committed to supporting those of you who are new to this role, and you will find that your CAASFEP colleagues will be one of your best resources for getting answers to the many questions you will face.

In these difficult times, CAASFEP can help lighten your load by providing you with timely information and the support you need to do your job to ensure students served by categorical programs receive the services they need to achieve at high levels. Because we know that all of you are working very hard to keep up with fast moving changes, and because we know your districts are facing dwindling resources, we are looking for new ways to continue to support you in your work.

If you have not yet joined CAASFEP, we encourage you to do so. When you do, you will also become a member of our parent organization, NAFEPA, the National Association of Administrators of Federal Education Programs. As a NAFEPA member you will receive their newsletter, discounted rates on publications on federal program administration from Thompson Publishing Co., and a discount on registration for NAFEPA’s annual conference on federal education issues in Washington, D.C.

Please contact any of us on the CAASFEP Board if we can answer any questions or be of assistance to you as you meet the challenges of managing programs for California’s most at-risk students.
